Theta Pavis
Theta Pavis worked for daily newspapers in Pennsylvania, New York and New Jersey. She was the founding editor of the lifestyle magazine Palisade, co-editor/founder of the news website Technophilly.com and hosted a Tech News update for WHYY radio in Philadelphia.
She has won several awards for her journalism. An avid traveler, she was also the travel editor of Hmag magazine. As a freelancer she wrote for numerous outlets, including Wired, New York Family, Huffington Post and Discover magazine. As a media specialist she helped several nonprofits tell their stories, including Sociologists for Women in Society and the Women’s International League for Peace & Freedom.
In 2021, the Society of Professional Journalists (NJ chapter) named her “Journalism Educator of the Year.” For nearly a decade she was the Director of Student Media at New Jersey City University and also volunteered with the College Media Association, where she served as vice
president.
As a creative writer, she has received residencies from Arts By The People in New Jersey and the Bethany Arts Center in New York. Her first chapbook of poems will be published in 2025.
Theta has a B.A. from UCLA and a master’s from the Graduate School of Journalism at Columbia University. She works at the New Jersey Institute of Technology in communications.
