Larry Durst
Larry has a Ph.D. in American Studies from Rutgers University-Newark where he teaches courses in Media Studies and American Studies. His research interests include critical, cultural, and media theory; the entwined histories of mass media, communications technology, advertising, corporate power, and consumerism; twentieth century popular culture; public memory; and the ways that Americans’ routine encounters with culture production, the local environment, and one another affect the formation and reinforcement of identities, ideologies, and social relations. He has published articles in journals of history and literature and is currently working on a book on American sitcoms of the 1960s. Larry spent thirty-five years as a creative director in advertising, brand promotion, and sports marketing agencies developing campaigns for a wide range of global and national brands.
