Jim Pensiero

F. James (Jim) Pensiero is a retired editor and news executive with 42 years of media-industry experience. He retired as deputy managing editor of The Wall Street Journal in November 2015, after 31 years of service there in a variety of editing and management roles including night news editor, national copy chief, deputy national editor, managing editor/SmartMoney, associate publisher and vice president of news operations. Jim was selected to accept the 2002 Pulitzer Prize for Breaking News Reporting for his role in producing the Journal’s September 12, 2001, edition. Following his retirement from the Journal, Jim worked for 15 months as a consultant at Gannett Co., reporting to Gannett’s chief content officer. He’s also done consulting work for News Corp. and McKinsey & Co. Jim began his news career in 1975 at the Burlington County Herald in Mt. Holly, NJ, later working at the Passaic (NJ) Herald-News, The Evening Bulletin of Philadelphia, Time Inc. and The Associated Press before joining The Wall Street Journal in 1984. He is married to Karen Miller Pensiero and lives in Verona, NJ, and Mt. Desert, Maine.
