Michael Cochrane’s music proves that the jazz tradition lives,” according to well-known jazz critic Scott Yanow. Cochrane, pianist, composer, arranger, and instructor, has performed and/or recorded with: Sonny Fortune, Eddie Gomez, Tom Harrell, Valery Ponomorev, Paul Nash, John Clark, Clark Terry, Nancy Monroe, Michael Brecker, Chico Freeman, The Spirit Of Life Ensemble, Ted Curson, Oliver Lake, Bradford Hayes and many more. Cochrane has performed in colleges, clubs, and concert halls throughout the United States, including New York’s Village Vanguard, Sweet Basil, Blue Note, Carnegie Hall, Alice Tully Hall, and Merkin Hall. His touring experience spans 25 countries around the globe.
Cochrane currently is a part-time instructor at Princeton University, Rutgers State University (Newark campus), Thurnauer School of Music and Bloomingdale School of Music. He has received fellowship grants in jazz performance from the National Endowment For The Arts, The Puffin Foundation, and the Mid-Atlantic Arts Foundation.
Cochrane has over ten recordings as a leader. He has written several books of a piano music and instruction published by Second Floor Music (distributed by Hal Leonard), SteepleChase, Charles Colin, and his own publishing company, Inner Search Music.
